Firing up the STD VNC server

by aahicnow

Firing up the VNC server on the STD disk is fairly simple once you know the following:

1: From the server menu, select VNC then, select Initialize vncserver.

2: Once the preceding step has completed once again from the server menu

Select VNC then, select Edit vnc.conf.

3: Once KEdit comes up you will want to remove the # sign from the beginning of following lines

26,32,40,41,42,43,44,45,46,47,48,53,62,65,68,72,76,82,91,92,100,103

All the above mention lines should be edited so that the $ sign is the first thing on the line.

4: Now save the file and exit Kedit (Ctrl s,ctrl w, Ctrl q for all u console types)

5: Now go to your KDE menu bar and start up a console (you know the one with the picture of a Monitor with the fan dohicky in front of it ;-)). When this window comes up, clear the tip window, and type the following at the prompt:> vncserver

6: You will then be prompted for a password(remember 6 chars or more), confirm it and you should then see something like

New 'X' desktop is Knoppix:1 <---- note this number because when you fire up the vncviewer you will have to specify this number. Each time you start vncserver it will increment this number.

7: When you start vncviewer and it asks for the server type in xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:# <----you did remember the number from the previous step right, and the xxx.xxx is the ip address of your STD machine.

8: If everything has gone well you should be seeing the standard STD screen on your vncviewer screen. Enjoy
